Christmas breakfast casseroles are a delightful way to start the festive day.

Here’s a classic recipe for a delicious Christmas Breakfast Casserole:

Ingredients: 1 pound breakfast sausage 1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing the baking dish) 6 slices of bread, cubed (stale bread works well) 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 8 large eggs 2 cups milk 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with olive oil. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and drain excess grease. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the cubed bread. Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage over the bread, followed by half of each type of cheese. Repeat the layering process with the remaining bread, sausage, and cheese. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish. Press down lightly on the layers to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight. This allows the bread to soak up the egg mixture.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole, covered, for 45 minutes.

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are set. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. This Christmas Breakfast Casserole is not only delicious but also convenient, as you can prepare it the night before and simply bake it on Christmas morning. Enjoy your festive breakfast!
