Philly cheesesteaks at home:

Ingredients: 1 lb (450g) ribeye or top round steak, thinly sliced 4 hoagie rolls or Italian rolls 1 large onion, thinly sliced 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil Salt and pepper to taste 8 slices of provolone cheese or Cheez Whiz Optional toppings: sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapeños, etc.

Instructions:

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add 1-2 tablespoons of oil to the skillet. Once hot, add the thinly sliced onions and cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil if needed. Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet in a single layer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Cook the steak for 2-3 minutes on each side until it is browned and cooked through. Once the steak is cooked, return the cooked onions to the skillet and toss them with the steak to combine. If using Cheez Whiz, you can add it directly to the skillet and stir it in with the steak and onions until it’s melted and evenly distributed. If using provolone cheese, place two slices of cheese on top of each portion of steak and onions, allowing it to melt slightly. While the cheese is melting, split the hoagie rolls or Italian rolls and lightly toast them under the broiler or on a hot griddle. Once the cheese is melted and the rolls are toasted, use a spatula to divide the steak, onions, and cheese mixture evenly among the rolls.

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Philly cheesesteaks! Feel free to customize your Philly cheesesteaks with additional toppings or condiments according to your preferences.
