2 pounds potatoes (such as Yukon Gold), thinly sliced 1 cup shredded cheese (such as Gruyere or Swiss) 1 cup heavy cream 1/2 cup breadcrumbs 2 tablespoons butter, melted Salt and pepper to taste Optional: minced garlic, chopped onions, or herbs like thyme or rosemary for added flavor


Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and melted butter.

Set aside. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Season with salt, pepper, and any additional flavorings you like, such as minced garlic or herbs. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the potatoes.

Repeat with another layer of potatoes, seasoning, and cheese. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the potato and cheese layers. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the dish. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
